The Good One Foots the Bill

You might not care about yourself enough to save yourself from an abusive partner.

(Not until you have kids, anyway.)

You probably had abusive parents, so it feels familiar.

Feels like love.

Feels like what you deserve.

But,

Here’s another reason to save yourself from experiencing too many bad ones:

The good one pays the price for what they did.

It’s because you are so safe, that I’m able to grieve all the times I was unsafe.

The contrast of how good you are, allows me to see for the first time how bad it was.

Because you meet high standards, I am able to feel how much others disappointed me.

And I might mistake that for disappointment in you if I didn’t know better.

And you don’t deserve that.

If you don’t care enough about yourself,

Care enough about the one who will help you heal someday.

So they don’t have to pay an emotional bill that is higher than they can afford.

Because they don’t deserve that.

And neither do you.

You just don’t realize it yet.

You are precious.
